ON THE ROAD
‘On the road’ is a short fictional story. One evening a son and father were resting on chairs, kept opposite each other in the balcony. The father was reading a newspaper while the son was in deep thinking; he was eight years old. The father was shabby looking and looked far old as his age. After some time, the son started to stare at his father in a very unusual way. The father didn’t notice it, and he continued reading the newspaper while the son was still staring at him.
After a while, when he finished reading, he saw that the son wasn’t on the chair. He went inside to look for him. He then checked into the son’s room but couldn’t find him. Now, he starts to call him “Aman, where are you?” and a voice came from the other side. He interpreted it from a toy room and went there. He rolled his eyes throughout the room and found him on the floor.
“Son, what are you doing?” he asked with concern
“I am collecting my toys!” he answered rudely
“Because I don’t want to live here anymore!”
“Why are you saying this? Tell me what happened”
“I don’t want to tell you anything!”
“But if you won’t tell me then, how will I be able to solve your problem?”
“Then don’t solve it!”
“If I won’t… then, who else will?”
“Your mom left us last year and refused to grow you on her own. Remember?”
“I know but, at least she will talk to me and help me with my homework.”
“You are not going anywhere, Aman; This is my last decision. Also, You are too young to explain everything!”
“You are always like this; you don’t love me, dad!”
On the Road Continues
And he ran while crying towards his room. At 10 pm on the same day, he quietly moved out of his room and checked for his dad. When he confirmed that his dad had asleep, he took some of his toys and left the house.
Searching for Aman
In the morning, the father got up and called for Aman. It was Sunday, so he thought that ‘maybe Aman wants to sleep for a little more time’ and resisted knocking on his room’s door. When he again looked at the clock, it was noon, and Aman still didn’t come out; he became tensed and went to his room. He underwent shock by his absence and shouted his name.
“Aman…Aman. Please, don’t play Hide & seek and come out. I am worried about you, son.”
But he didn’t get any reply. He sat on the sofa holding his head and suddenly recalled their last conversation in which he mentioned his mother’s name. He grabbed his phone and dialed her number. The ring continued for 3 seconds, and she picked up the call.
“Hello,” She said
“Hello, Anjali. I am Vivek. Is Aman with you?”
“Yes, but why did you send him to my house?”
“I didn’t send him. He escaped from my house last night.”
“Okay, please take him soon. I already have one child so, I don’t want any mess in my family because of Aman. Raman(her current husband) is not at home so, you can come right now.”
“Please take care of him till then; he doesn’t know about Your and Raman’s child.”
“Yeah, okay. Come fast”
Aman hearing the Conversation
Aman heard the conversation and understood that her mom abandoned him because of her other child. But his dad was always there for him. He wanted to hug his dad and thank him for everything he did for him and left for his dad’s house, and Vivek also left to take Aman home.
The distance was 10 minutes yonder. Aman took an Auto rickshaw while Vivek had a car. When they both were at the crossway, Aman saw Vivek and went out of the Auto while shouting “papa” Vivek heard this and went out of the car. They both were on opposite sides. Vivek gestured for Aman to stop at his place. But Aman didn’t understand the gesture and ran towards him. Vivek saw the car that was about to hit Aman, and he increased his speed to save him. The car came closer, and both got hit by it and lost their lives while holding each other’s hands.
