Dan Buettner, a National Geographic professional explorer, assisted in the discovery of these five regions— Nicoya, Costa Rica; Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy. The Blue Zones are a group of people who live in a place called we had the opportunity to speak with Dan about his findings after spending years researching the lifestyles of these five regions.
It turns out that following a largely vegan diet is one of the blue zones’ healthiest habits. People in these places, according to Buettner, eat comparable diets that are high in complex carbs like fruits, whole grains, and legumes. The healthiest people on the planet eat at least 12 cups of legumes every day, whether it’s soybeans in Okinawa or chickpeas in Sardinia.

In recent years, gut health has been a huge term in the nutrition industry, and beans are a terrific way to improve your microbiome.
