Characteristic of the town:
Far from the human population, there is an old bird town. Deep and dark branched trees can be seen from the nearby top hill where many small treehouses are found. Many bird families happily live in the area which is not that big yet tranquil and peaceful. This place is known as the “happiest town” ever. All the birds live with love, compassion, and unity. The best thing about them is that they don’t leave one another in the hard times. Yet, the past was not the same though, residents told that something happened which completely changed them and their behavior towards life.
Once, the old birdie remembered their experience as:
That was the time when we were unhappy with our lives. We wanted big houses and more luxurious living and were not satisfied with what we eat and wanted more delicious food to eat. All of us used to live a fake life by not caring much and comparing our lives with others. Even underestimating the value of our life and health the whole time.
only a few members of the community were so contented and happy with their lives. Like Pinto” uncle, a wise and spiritual person in the community who used to persuade everyone not to be distraught and value the existing things one has. Yet, we all thought that the uncle is old minded and know nothing regarding modernism.
One fine morning, we heard some news about the chaos regarding the ‘monster snake’. It was attacking the colony and causing some kind of lethal disease. Everyone was saying that it could bite and make birds sick. We all were so afraid; all the trees were alerted to get protected at home. Nobody was allowed to move outside even for food. Many families were about to starve and they were on the verge of death.
Some thought that the sickness didn’t exist, it was just a rumor but then, unfortunately, they all got sick eventually. Some of them died. There were worried and hazards were everywhere. We were in constant dismay and got to know that this condition is called “pandemic”.
The situation was getting worse day by day. Many of us were mentally affected severely, until the time that we stopped to think we could be able to live freely and happily again. There was no cure for the disease. Moreover, we had to be habitual to that. The remedy was just to be home-sheltered and make ourselves safe… Even the birds’ doctor lost hope saying that we just have to make ourselves and others protected, as there is no way out.
Life lessons and Realisations:
Meanwhile, uncle Pintu made everyone realize again that, “This is an opportunity to make ourselves better, we need to value our life and health instead of desiring for more. The actual purpose of life should be our relations and how well we are with each other, not the things we possess”. That was the first time that we understood each word he said. We promised to be a better version of ourselves. From that day on, we cared for each other, and our family and community life began to get better. We started sharing our foods and became empathic.
After 2 years and a few months of restlessness and worry, the pandemic ended finally. We couldn’t believe it initially, later we celebrated it. We were so happy upon fulfilling the prayers with the realization that we were living a wrong life. Because the only thing that matters is “life” itself. Possessions are temporary, relations are more important than anything else.
This was the life-changing story of this community which sets an example for others to follow.
