Mother earth, as some would call it, is taking a great stride forward on the aspects of modern technologies and the use of it on a general basis. Almost every person around the globe is experiencing this advanced lifestyle, thanks to the modern world that we live in now. But that doesn’t seem the same if we dare to take a look on the other side, the earth’s side.
plastic waste and its hazards
It’s hard and destructive periods of time, because of the selfish, uncared, and ambitious ways of people who live in it. And when it’s time to pick an apple from a tree, there’s always the one who managed to come out.
one of the most infuriating issues that we have not yet to conquer is plastic waste. it undeniably jeopardizes our environment in a very inevitable way.
Plastic waste has always been one of the main topics of global environmental issues. Especially in South East Asia, where four of the five countries that produce the most plastic waste are from the ASEAN members. We are allegedly responsible for 55%-60% of the total marine pollution .
Indonesia program to process plastic waste
Many countries have made different innovations and policies to try to handle this catastrophic issue as soon as possible. In Indonesia, specifically in Bandung City, the government has created a community program called “KangPisMan”, defined as:
- KANG (Reduce): by reducing the use of single plastic use
- PIS (Separate): by dividing the trash into 3 different types,
- type 1 in the form of food and plant waste that is placed in a closed bucket
- type 2 in the form of paper, cans, glass, and plastic bottles placed in a cardboard box and finally
- the third type: includes forms of waste other than the 2 previous types

after it’s separated according to type, type 1 waste can be processed back into bio pure, composter, overlay brick, biodigester, BSF maggot, as well as animal feed. Type 2 rubbish can be transported to the garbage bank for recycling. and type 3 rubbish can be taken to a temporary shelter to be collected to the final processing site by the janitor
When it comes to global issues, any paths that might lead us to achieve and solve out the main problem is a necessity, no matter how big or small step they are.
If we can overcome this environmental issue by turning any innovations into real work, we can overcome anything towards our goal as a great nation to make the world as our home, a place where we will leave our children and the next generations to live in and make sure that they are in the best place to be.
Ultimately, the question we can ask ourselves as an individual or nation as a whole, is that: If not here, where? If not now, when?
