The reigning Champions League winners Bayern Munich has continued where they left off a month ago. In their Bundesliga opening on Saturday, the dismantled Schalke 04; scoring eight goals in the process. A repeat performance of the 8-2 thrashing of Barcelona in the Champions League last month.
Schalke 04 could only muster one shot on target throughout the game. It was Bayern Munich running riot as the recorded a consecutive 22 wins in a row. The last time the Bundesliga Champions tasted defeat was on 7th December 2019.
Leroy Sane, a 44.7 million pounds addition from Manchester city made his debut for the Champions. In the process, he scored one goal and laid two assists for Gnabry. Sane ran the Schalke defence ragged all through the game.
In the same fashion, Gnabry a former Arsenal player grabbed his first hattrick for Bayern. He opened the scores in the fourth minute when he curled in from outside the 18-yard box. Bayern never looked back from the on. Robert Lewandowski, Leon Goretzka, Thomas Muller, and 17-year-old Jamal Musiala scored their other goals.
This victory is the biggest victory by any team in the opening weekend of the Bundesliga.
Lewandoski scored from the spot after being fouled inside the 18-yard box. The Polish international scored 55 goals in 47 appearances for Bayern last season. That tally is by far more than anyone in the league and Europe at large.
There was time also for teenage sensation, Teenager Musiala, to add a cherry to the cake. He scored in the 81st minute, cutting from the wing to score a glorious goal. By so doing, the teenager became Bayern Munich’s youngest goalscorer in Bundesliga history. The seventeen-year-old saw only two minutes of action last season.
In another development, Bayern had hoped to have a crowd of 7,500 for their season opener. Unfortunately, that was blocked by Munich’s mayor. Some states in the country allowed a few fans to attend matches. Bayern beating Shalke 8-0 in front of their fans will be a delight.
