Our society has been patriarchal for so long. Nobody knows when it all between women and men started. Probably, it was because men are physically stronger than women. Hence, perhaps our forefathers set out a rule that men will go out, work hard, earn money, provide the family with its needs. On the other hand, women will take care of the house, cook, feed, and nurture.
Education has become one of the important basic needs. With its introduction, the scenario has changed a lot since then. Both men and women are educated today and can provide for the family.
But still, women’s moving forward toward achieving their dreams is not yet digestible to society. When it comes to the family, it is always their responsibility. Men can work freely whenever and wherever they like to, but it not likewise for women. Either the society, their stigmas, or stereotypes always keeps binding them.
Especially for girls, their qualifications do not matter in a marriage. Not the men but women have the compulsory duty to look after their in-laws, husband, and children.
I was talking to a guy about marriage. He said I should not say anything to his parents that defies them even if they pass any negative comments about me. I should pay them respect by remaining silent. If this is what today’s education in society expects from ladies who are aware of their basic rights, we should question where are these rules really taking us?
After all, what we need is just a little care and a little bit of support. When will men understand this simple thing? They only enjoy pressurizing women, manipulating them, and keeping under their feet. If we can multitask, having a job, a family, babies to look after, then why men cannot offer us a little bit of support?
- Problem with society
From childhood; society teaches girls to remain silent, speak soft, behave gently. They are not free to express their emotions. Anyone has got the right to attack with acid to women for the rejection, burnt alive in the case of dowry, raped physically, and it breaks them mentally forever. Because society is against the victim, not the culprit.
Women are never safe in public. When they step outside, people treat them like public property. They are not safe at home either. Their own family members or relatives keep harassing them.
Women are not safe in the workplace. A random guy will come to find an excuse to talk to them, touch them in inappropriate places. Surprisingly, our society has taught them to feel guilty about it. So, we really need to awake our sleeping society, raising that equality should not be applied only in theory. We should raise a voice against what is wrong and not judge anyone’s choices. Education is better if practically applied in our daily lives.
