Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang has finally signed a new three-year contract extension with the North London club. It has been a summer of speculations with the Gabon international in the final year of his contract.
In January, the Arsenal captain will be eligible to talk to another club. Consequently, Arsenal moved quickly to negotiate with the 31-year-old former Dortmund striker. Arsenal can not afford to lose their most prized asset.
During the unveiling ceremony today, Aubamayang has these to say:
“Signing for this special club was never in doubt,” he said. “I believe in Arsenal. We can achieve big things together. We have something exciting here and I believe the best is to come for Arsenal.”
Aubameyang has been prolific for Arsenal. Besides, he has been the quickest to reach 5o goals in the history of the London club. In 111 appearances, he has scored 72 goals for Arsenal. His goals have been very important for the club. He is presently irreplaceable in the team.
His two goals in the semi-final and finals of the FA Cup landed Mikel Arteta’s first silverware. In the same vein, the Arsenal coach has been unequivocal in his belief that Aubameyang will sign a new contract.
In the meantime, this is the most important signing Arsenal will make this summer. The 2015 African footballer of the year has kept fans on the edge all summer. This news will bring a lot of joy to the Emirate faithful.
Aubameyang became the captain in November after a brawl between the fans and then captain Granit Xhaka. The team has improved a lot after Mikel Arteta took over from Freddie Ljungberg in December 2019.
In another development, Arsenal has also secured the signature of Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes. The defender arrived from Lille and scored in his debut game away to Fulham. Mikel Arteta still has an eye in the market as he looks to bolster his squad.
