The young Chelsea winger has been informed by the club that he could be loaned out in the current season. This is really expected with the recent signings Chelsea has made.
The London club has been busy in the market, splashing the cash on top players. Unfortunately for Odoi, two of these players are in contention with him for the right-wing position. With his poor form towards the end of the season, it will be hard to see him displace any of Ziyech or Kai Haverts.
Before the end of the last season, the young England international found it difficult nailing down a starting spot in the team. With that in mind, it will be difficult to see him feature in Frank Lampard’s plans this season.
Earlier last summer, Lampard was defiant in his bid to keep the 19-year-old at the club. Despite the huge interests of Bayern Munich, Chelsea held on to their young star. As a matter of fact, he has not been able to win over Lampard. Consequently, the Chelsea coach is ready to sanction a loan move for Odoi.
Odoi made 33 appearances in all competition last season scoring three goals. He lost his place in the course of the season. He only played on the fringes and made intermittent substitute appearances. It’s still a wonder how a player vigorously sought after by Bayern Munich, the current Champions League winners will be going out on loan.
This scenario brings up the question of why did Lampard refuse to let the youngster join Bayern Munich? The Chelsea coach insists that Odoi represents the future of the club. He maintained that not featuring him in matches cannot be translated as a loss of faith in his abilitiestranslated as a loss of faith in his abilities.
In the meantime, we will see what positive impact going out on loan will have on his career. A lot of Chelsea starlets have fizzled out and their career nose-dived after loan spells. Players who hitherto started with a lot of prospects. We pray such is not the case with Odoi.
