“Empathy is the ability to step into the shoes of another person, aiming to understand their feelings and perspectives and to use that understanding to guide our action.”
In the present world, technology has been developed and connected people from all parts of the world with a small chip and an internet connection, but sad technology failed to invent the connection between people’s feelings and what’s going on in one’s mind. If we randomly take 100 people, you will find less than 5 people with kindness, compassion, integrity, and the ability to understand other people’s feelings.
No matter how educated, talented, rich, cool you believe you are, if you don’t know how to treat people and respect their feelings, then you are ultimately nothing but a big ZERO. Be kind and always build others up to the best of your ability. Treat everyone with the same kindness that you love yourself to be treated with, not because everyone is nice to you bit you are.
Empathy is what facilitates prosocial or helping behavior that comes from within the heart and not forced. In this world, everything is taught in school, how to study, make money, or be rich, etc. But none has taught us how to be kind, compassionate, empathetic, or respect others.
Empathy is the behavioral skill that everyone can develop, but it just needs a heart that should have the ability of understanding and thinking about what someone is going through and the emotions they are in. Just imagine yourself in that place; try being kind to people by giving them a hand. Just a kind word for their emotions means a lot. Empathy is not just a dictionary word, it’s a characteristic that makes us humans, even that quality can change the world.
Empathy is an expensive character that’s hard to find in society because it’s not taught in school, universities, or workplaces. It’s cultivated and developed by sincerity. When you show your deep empathy towards others, their negativity will go down and your kindness will create positive energy in them that will create creativity in solving problems.
As Albert Schweitzer says “the purpose of human life is to serve and to show compassion and the will to help others”
The great gift of every human is their power of empathy, but many do not dare to display it. Empathy is not something that can be removed or ignored, it’s the normal function of our brain, after all, we can and do combine reason with our instincts and intuitions.
Here is a short story about the industrialist Ratan Tata about empathy: One fine day he was traveling in Mumbai. He was stopped near a traffic signal. He saw a family with 5 members traveling on a motorbike. In India, not everyone can afford a car because it’s a bit costly for them. He started thinking from there.” I am traveling alone in a car and a 5 member family traveling on a motorbike. ” As an Indian industrialist, he felt ashamed of himself and thought why can’t he invent the car which can be affordable for the middle-class people in India. From his empathy 1 lakhs( nearly 1200$) the car was invented.
People always confuse empathy with sympathy, sympathy is just a feeling for someone, and on the other hand, empathy feeling like you are with that person, through the use of imagination. Empathy is the interpersonal skills that can be developed, and it comes naturally to most people.
Be kind to everyone because we don’t know how much the person is suffering inside, one small care will give some relaxation and spread some positivity. As the great comedian Charlie Chaplin used to say, I love to cry in the rain because I don’t want anyone to see that I am crying. We can’t say all smiling faces are happy. We used to judge people even though we don’t understand others. Respect people’s feelings, even if it doesn’t mean anything to you. It means a lot to them. Be the reason for someone’s smile.
Try to see from the eyes of others, listen with the ears of another, and feel with the heart of another.
Imagine what 7 billion humans could accomplish if we love and respect one another. Start with kindness, integrity, compassion, and understanding. When you start developing empathy in yourselves, it will spread like a virus, if you are good to one person, that person will be to another, and the chain will continue.
Empathy can change the world with one person and be that one person
When you blame or ignore or get angry at someone just think from their side.
Rather than feeling sympathy for someone, be empathic and give your hands to them.
