Mezut Ozil’s dilemma, sitting out games at Arsenal every week, may soon be over. Reports from Daily mail has it that a mouth-watering offer has been tabled for him in Saudi Arabia.
Interestingly, the former Real Madrid playmaker and his agent Erkut Sogut have reiterated the German’s desire to see out his contract at Arsenal. Ozil has a year remaining in his contract. At almost 32 years of age, he is at the twilight of his career.
The Saudi Arabian club side AI-Nassr is rumoured to have made the world cup winner an offer. The offer will see him pocket 15 million pounds a season for three seasons. At his age, that is a tempting offer.
Moreover, Al-Nassr chiefs reportedly told Ozil, “We want to make you the new Prince of Saudi Arabia and we will not spare any sacrifices for this.”
However, it is becoming increasingly clear that Ozil is not part of Mikel Arteta’s long term plans at Arsenal. He has not featured the player in any match post-COVID 19 hiatus. Ultimately, it looks like accepting the Saudi Arabian offer will be in the best interest of all parties.
Meanwhile, Arsenal is yet to make their intention to offload their star man official. Feelers from the team indicate the club is desperate to do so. Getting Ozil out of the club will free up a significant amount of money in the team’s Wage bill. At 350k a week, the German international is the highest earner at Arsenal.
In another development, Perry Groves, a former Arsenal player has branded Ozil selfish for not attending the FA Cup Final match with Chelsea. Perry accuses Ozil for not bothering about Arsenal. “He only cares about himself,” the ex-player fumes in an interview with the The Daily Mail.
Ozil got the club’s permission to travel to Turkey during the FA Cup Final, when his name did not make the matchday squad.
