The Power Of Social Media
Hamza Iqbal Chughtai
In this age and time, social media has tremendous power. You can tweet about a topic; share it on Facebook and talk about it on Instagram. After a few seconds, people will retweet your tweet, reshare your post on Facebook and Instagram. And just within hours, your topic will start trending on Twitter, FB, and Instagram.
These days when influencers and bloggers have thousands of followers, they have the power to talk about an important issue and make it go viral on social media; forcing the authorities to look into the matter. But very few, I will repeat very few people highlight the important issues that need to be made viral, the issues that need attention.
These influencers will promote the brands that pay them and will talk about the rich people’s problems and will rant about liberal issues. There is nothing wrong with promoting brands and sharing your views. I support it and it’s legit. But they should also use the power they have to help the troubled people. They should talk about the recent arrest of Julie and for the rights of the transgender community so neglected by our society. They should talk about the Muslims dying in Kashmir, Palestine. They should talk about the crisis in Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, and Iraq. They should stand up for any human being suffering from injustice at any level. Our system is not perfect, every other day there are reports of people being kidnapped, children being raped, innocent people being shot down, Mafias manipulating the system to hurt people, there are people in our country suffering from some unspeakable troubles, people are dying at our borders, there are so many things and so many people who are helpless and don’t have anyone to fight for their cause.
Just think for a second if you even play a tiny little part in just sharing a person’s problem which eventually spreads enough that authorities are forced to solve it. Even though thousands have contributed in make that story go viral but those thousands include you, you were the part of the chain that kept on growing and eventually became viral.
I didn’t mean to offend anyone by writing this, but I wanted to tell you all that your voice on the internet means something, your single share, your single post do play a part that can lead to a bigger change. Use the power you have either 20k or 1k for something meaningful.
