Recently my best friend said to me: “After coming out of this quarantine period, everyone will be changed, in a good way.”
I then realized he is so true. Here’s how this quarantine is going to change us all into a better version of ourselves:
I think during this period, we all have a chance to get closer to our parents and siblings and I think most of us will. We will find ways to enjoy this period in our homes and will see that it’s actually fun to be around your family. So, this quarantine period can actually help us repair our relations with our family and build a more cordial and affectionate bond with them.
This time made our belief in Allah stronger than ever, making us realize that no power on earth can help us but only Allah can. We, humans, are so fragile that a tiny virus-like this made us all helpless but Allah is the only one we should always seek for help.
This time will also teach us that we should value the people we usually take for granted like our friends and family. I still remember as I was leaving the hostel and saying farewell to my friends, I had no idea when I will see them again, and will I be able to see them again or not. So, this period teaches us to love them more, to enjoy every moment we have with them.
This time teaches us some basic moral values, first, we should respect every profession whether its doctors, nurses, paramedics, health workers, police and even sweepers, who daily clean our hospitals where we are treated. They are the real heroes. Second, this time is giving us a chance to help the poor and needy, who used to work the whole day to get enough money, to afford food at night. Most importantly it teaches us to feel for those people who have been and still are under lock-down and curfew worse than ours like people of Kashmir, Palestine, and Syria.
Doesn’t everything seem so insignificant now? These big houses, lavish cars, these Khaadi’s, Gul Ahmed and other branded clothes and shoes, stuck inside our homes, they don’t matter now. So, what matters? A hug from a loved one, a family gathering, a friend’s night out, gossip sessions, those last few months of college lessons, just the freedom to live, to stand close, to hold hands. May we never get lost in the chaos of materialism again. We should use this quarantine to help spread awareness about this pandemic, we should give money and food to deserving people, we should pray and recite Quran more often, we should try to figure ourselves out and try to do some artistic work like paint, write, read or anything that we love.
This period is going to change us for the rest of our lives.
