Before you start reading, first of all, I would like to say: this research based on my Research method course, that I have presented at the university I studied.
Why I choose such a topic?
I observed many people and especially teenagers, always talked about series, actually only Turkish series. Even their behavior, way of speaking, and their attitude were the same as in Turkish series. I heard many of them talking about series, names, stories, etc. weirdly way; expressing it as if it’s a true story! That made me curious and pushed me to search for this topic.
And now I hope you enjoy reading my research 🙂
The influence of Turkish series on teenagers
Series is a program that tells a story. It mainly shows a specific aim that the director wants to reveal to the audience. The Turkish series recently took a huge place in Arab society, since the turkey’s government is trying to spread its culture and make it go wider by increasing the program’s production. Mainly the teenagers who are interested in these series and especially the drama ones, and they the most life stage that gets attached and attracted to them. However, the Turkish series has a great impact on teens that changed their entire life.
The Turkish drama is the most popular source of entertainment that shows the effect on teenager’s behavior, and life, also it changed the way they’re living. Since teenagers are the hardest, sensitive, and changeable life stage, female teens are considered the most popular by watching and getting more attached to series more than males. So they’re the most category who get influenced in dramas series. Turkey series nowadays are focusing on producing drama programs that teens tend to watch mostly. A study showed the average of programs that impact on their lifestyle is 63%, these impacts like choosing/copying turkey’s wearing style, in their kinds of foods, the language they’re using it by their communication or on social media, attempting to live like Turkish lifestyle.
Teens are becoming addicted to Turkey’s series by spending along time for 2 hrs and more watching a full episode one time, and that’s what we see nowadays which means Turkish culture is taking an enormous place in their life. Besides, a study that revealed 89.1% indicated their preferences for Turkey as a tourism destination. So Turkish plays a huge impact that made a change in an individual’s lifestyle, and you can realize teenagers are adding to their life anything that is related to Turkish style, which means they’re leaning towards turkey’s culture and applying it more.
We can figure nowadays, how much teenagers are attached to the Turkish series; the reason behind this is the romance that they miss in Arab culture. While they watch they feel empathy as the character is close to them in society. And since Turkish culture is somehow similar to Arab’s culture, so they prefer turkey’s drama more. These series provide a breath of fresh air to millions of Arabs unused to this kind of situation and themes in the Turkish series were forbidden of the moral or sexual don’t exist anymore. Yet teenagers tend to a specific type of dramas like romance, comedy, and fictional drama, which are the most kinds that entertain them. Besides, as we moved our lives online, the internet promised an end to isolation, but actually, it’s raising the rate of isolating themselves. The average spending time watching is increasing since Turkey is publishing its series on social media so the tendency. Which leads to raising the percentage of isolation, a report suggests that if you spend over two hours a day on social networks, your chances of feeling socially isolated are twice as high and becoming harder to achieve real connection. Teens stated the reason behind using the internet for a long time because “the internet makes me feel safe.” When they feel socially isolated turned to social media, that’s why they spent more time watching Turkish dramas.
Finally, the Turkish series has a way impact on teenagers that made a change in their life and style. And they became close to turkey’s culture more than our culture; which means if the teens kept watching the percentage of in fluency will raise more and more, that could make the teens prefer Turkish culture than theirs. And also, they’ll get more addicted to dramas more than the average time that they spend in front of the screen will increase double and so the isolation rate will increase too. Does it mean Teens will suffer from a lack in their way of communication with society?
