The Search For The Emperor’s Apprentice Part 1
Sayaka had an odd way of holding her weapon, She held her branch as if it was a sheathed sword on her left hip. Her right hand held it properly, with her thumb pointing towards the “edge” (This is called the front grip) while her left hand held it with her thumb pointing to the “hilt”( This is called the back grip). Sayaka ran towards Ayane with her branch, Ayane kept her fighting stance preparing herself for the attack. When Ayane is the striking distance, Sayaka swung her branch in an upward diagonal direction going towards the right.
The branch slowly morphed into a sword as it became closer to Ayane. She dodged the attack by swerving her head towards the left and predicted that Sayaka would bring the blade back by slashing downwards in a diagonal version towards the left but instead, she slashed down diagonally towards the right which caught Ayane off guard. Ayane quickly swerved her body towards the right with the blade mere centimeters from her mask.
Sayaka then spun around in a clockwise manner and tried to slice Ayane crosswise from her hip but she was quick to arch her back towards the floor which barely cleared the swinging blade. Ayane was on another level with her dodging skill but Sayaka was 2 steps ahead of her. When Sayaka swung her blade, her left hand let go and as the blade spun around, she changed her right-hand hold from front grip to back grip. Her left hand grabbed the hilt in a front grip and she swung the sword downwards to cleave Ayane while she was still in her arch.
Ayane dodged the incoming attack by sidestepping the blade which left a dent on the concrete floor. She found her opening to break Sayaka’s mask so, in a haste, she leaned in with her right foot and jabbed with her left hand aiming directly at her chin. Sayaka was quick to notice what the brawler had planned so she immediately transformed her sword into a kunai which she held with her right hand in the back grip position. She leaned back and deflected the jab by slicing her kunai upwards diagonal going to the right.
Ayane followed her attack by placing her left foot forward and punching with her right. Sayaka figured out a pattern in her attacks and knew that after the first jab, a second one would follow, and then a right kick to her right leg to weaken it. She took a step back using her left leg and redirected the right punch by slicing the kunai downwards diagonal towards the left. Just as she expected, Ayane poised her right leg to strike her lead so she raised her right leg to block the
Ayane knew that Sayaka would underestimate her fight IQ and go for something so predictable. She feigned right kick to the lead leg and instantly whipped hers towards Sayaka’s face which landed a direct hit. The impact of the strike was enough to break parts of Sayaka’s wooden mask as she was knocked down to the floor and instantly getting right back up to her fighting stance.
