Still not sure how to spend some of these newly found hours in a day? How about using some this time to enforce some lifestyle-elevating habits? Here are 5 habits that will set you up for an energy-filled productive day.
Wake up early
Waking up early is subjective. It may prove impossible depending on who you are and what your responsibilities are. Yet, it has an influence on your mental state and the mood of your day – after sleeping healthy hours of course.
When you wake up early, your mind has time to interact with the surroundings before the chaos of life resumes. You give your mind time to ease into the day without all the distractions.
These two studies conclude that people who wake up early tend to be more energetic and focused. They are adept in taking better decisions, planning, and achieving goals. They have better health and the list goes on.
Besides all these, you start to realize that you have enough hours in a day to do everything you want after all. Who knew?
If none of that is enough for you to commit to being an early bird, then get up early to exercise! This is another habit that will set you up for a productive day.
Exercise in the morning
Beta endorphins and Nor-epinephrine! Ever heard of those? These are your ‘feel-good’ chemicals. They will trigger actions such as boosting your mood and immunity, relieve stress, and give tranquillity of mind .
Certain activities will trigger the release of these chemicals. Some of those are exercise, meditation, and yoga.
You might already see where I’m going with this, but since you’re still reading, I’ll tell you anyway. Exercising in the morning will set you up for a productive day by giving you a great energy boost, a clear mind, and a ‘feel-good’ ambiance that will stay with you throughout the day.
Create a morning & night-time skincare routine
“I don’t want to have a natural glow,” said no one ever.
Only a few of us are born with genes like Cleopatra’s of unparalleled beauty. But we all want to have flawless skin with a natural glow.
Most skin issues will depend on a gazillion other factors. The factors can be Internal, e.g. diet, stress, and anxiety; or external e.g. weather, fabrics, and products. A thoughtfully placed skincare routine is one way to work with your skin to nurse it to near-flawlessness.
This works because when you put in place a skincare routine, you start to pay attention to it. It then becomes easy to identify your skin problems and hence you can work on a possible solution. Be it buying a product or seeing a therapist. So this is as important a habit to hone as the last two, it helps you work on your well-being.
Drink a lot of water
This is to be a resounding reminder for you to keep a water bottle near hand throughout the day! The benefits of this for your skin, your hair, your health, and all of you are countless.
Keep a daily to-do list
It’s the last hour before you sleep. You’ve put your phone beside you on your nightstand after checking your social media one last time. You’re tucked in your blankets and are now thinking about everything you did during the day. You smile because it wasn’t a bad day. Then you remember you had to download a video editor so that you can teach yourself to become an editor. It slipped your mind, again. You tell yourself you’ll do it tomorrow.
How about using this time to write your to-do list?
This part of your day is the perfect time to write what you’d like to do for the next day. A to-do list will help you visualize the important things and things you want to achieve before the end of the day. It gives you a sense of accountability and helps you get things done.
To get into the habit of it, you can even write one or two obvious things to do for the next day. For example, “wash my face” & “eat at least once.” This will get you in tune with ticking things off on your list.
What a to-do list will not do?
What a to-do list will not do is magically make you want to do the things you’ve been putting off for days, weeks, or even months. But, it will help you set the intention and also serve as a reminder of what needs to get done. This will increase the chances of completing your tasks. And if you really get into the habit of it, a to-do list can help maximize your productivity.
So, what am I saying in a nutshell?
Re-enforcing these habits and creating that intention to stay consistent despite your mind’s resistance will bring great benefits throughout your day.
If anything happened, let this be a reminder to find your footing again with these positive habits. They will enhance not only your productivity but your temperament as well.
The most important thing is to listen to yourself and your body and respond accordingly. If something is not working for you, be honest with yourself, and evaluate why it isn’t. If you’re trying your best to no avail, adjust your strategies. Sticking with habits that won’t work will do more harm than good.
