A large population of the world is ageing rapidly. Older people face special physical and mental health challenges which need to be recognized.
Against the Backdrop of Corona Pandemic, Government of various countries have advised the elderly people belonging to the age of more than 60 years to remain at home in order to avoid health hazards. This has created a precarious situation for elderly people, particularly for those who are living alone as they can not find caretakers for themselves.
Elderly care or Geriatric care is required by those elders who not only need assistance in various daily chores such as bathing, toileting, walking etc but also those who need a companion to talk and share their feelings. Old- age people prefer to be at home than to be shifted to a hospital for assistance in their daily chores. The Idea to move to a place having an unfamiliar setting generally frustrates them.
There’s a massive shortage currently of people working in the caregiver field. Individuals who are looking forward to making a career in the caregiver field are those who have done basic nursing and Health attendant courses recognized by the Government. Individuals should also have the ability to treat and care for clients and their property with dignity and respect.
The demand of the Client for caregiving jobs differ depending upon individuals. It can be a part-time or a full-time job based on the requirement of the Client which the caregiver serves. The caregiver is expected to provide companionship, plan and prepare meals, remind medication, and assist the client with personal care like toileting and bathing.
As the world population is ageing up fast there will be an astronomical demand in the skilled caregiver services and will create a great number of jobs. In Western countries like the United States of America and England, there will be greater demand for this profession because a large percentage of the population is ageing and citizens of the country are kept busy because of their professional commitments.
