Contrary to that song by Pink and Khalid, it doesn’t hurt to be human. There’s a saying that goes thus: The world is full of nice people and if you can’t find one, become one. While this article isn’t trying to limit humanity to niceness alone, it’s also emphasizing the fact that we’re humans just so we can express humanity. Being humane in this context is not just being a good and well- behaved person to yourself and your society but also the world at large. Even better to know is the fact that we can be express our humane selves in the littlest of the things we do, things like:
- Being there for that person that needs help: As human beings, we all have needed or would still need help from people, and while we are it some of us tend to be better off than others, thereby putting us in a position to be of help to them. If you can help anyone around you without hurting yourself (emphasis on hurting) then please do so without thinking twice. Another thing is, not everyone would be able to come out and say they need help, so if you sense it without being told, do your best to help because it doesn’t cost anything.
- Be Empathetic: Empathy has to be one of the finest qualities of the human being probably because it encompasses more qualities like compassion, feelings, understanding, and helps to create love. As an empathetic human, you get to listen to and understand that feeling of pain, happiness, euphoria, or anything the person in question is going through. A problem shared, they say is half solved and I have cause to believe that empathy is what makes the problem fully solved.
- It’s the thought that counts: Sometimes we try our hands-on random acts of kindness, and they turn out to be imperfect or under-appreciated by the recipient of these acts. This article commends whoever this has happened to and is also appealing to everyone by saying it’s the thought that counts. Do you and let the world adjust, still strive to act right even in the face of condemnation. Why? because it’s the thought that counts and that’s how humanity works.
- That random act of kindness does go a long way: You’ve got two umbrellas and can spare that stranded person at the store? Do it. That colleague of yours at work who doesn’t have a car, offer him/her a lift now and then. Those laborers or entrepreneurs who barely make above minimum wage, give a tip or at least make them keep the change. It may seem like something minimal, but it does go a long way in defining your personality and making the world a better place.
One love keeps us together. Irrespective of race, gender, or color, the moment we share the love and strive to be the best we can, Life would be a much better place and of course, it really wouldn’t hurt to be human.
Be a better person today!
