Some people think that children`s free time must include educational activities otherwise they will waste their time.
Children should be given exclusively free time devoid of educational activities as it’s important to rest after some studies. Studies have shown that free time is important to the holistic development of children. There is no waste of time since they’d already had their learning. I believe the brain works best when you take your time to play, exercise, and sleep well. For the children, their physical playtime will be enough exercise since they engage in a lot of running and jumping.
Some parents who are not well conversant with education and child development might argue otherwise. They are of the opinion that their children will be wasting a lot of time if not engaged in educational activities. Even though many parents opt for a lot of homework, studies have shown that homework doesn’t improve the overall performance of a child in school, especially at the primary level. Nonetheless, some parents, especially the ones who have abdicated their parenting duty to nannies would rather opt for a lot of homework in the pretext that their children will be kept busy.
Controlled playtime, in my opinion, is very healthy for child development. Just the same way teachers control the learners’ playtime so should parents so that their children can get that uninterrupted playtime. In school, we condition the students to know what time is for break and class time. When they have mastered this conditioning, it is therefore called a routine. So every school day they know their routine and the consequences of breaking them. Parents can do that as well with a lot of success. In school, for instance, break time shouldn’t be denied to a student because they need that time to eat and play after a long time in the classroom.
