Pidgin is the language developed and used by the people, who do not share a common means of communication. It is developed naturally when two groups having different languages, live together due to some reason. It gets evolves according to the requirements of the topic of communication. Pidgin is not a mother tongue or the first language of anyone. No social group adopts the other language without a reason; pidgin is accepted and spoken by both the groups mainly because of trade (Wardugh, 2006). The people who are in less power, as the third world countries, they adopt the words from the language of powerful countries more. The dominant language is called super strate language and the other language which plays a lesser part is called substrate language. It is also called the hybrid language as it has the characteristics of two different languages. Pidgins are a simpler version of the languages, thus they have no hard and fast rules and it does not contain any native speakers. (Crystal, 1993). A pidgin establishes creole and in this way, cross-cultural marriages are important in this concept as they are the ones who adopt this as their language.
The reason behind the creation of pidgin can be different, it can be developed due to colonization, trading. For example, the slaves brought to North America to work n plantations were chosen from urban areas of Africa, so they do not know or learn and could not escape. As a result, they develop pidgin language to communicate with each other. African English has some words from the African language while some from English. Urdu is also known to be pidgin.
