Who does Freelancing?
A freelancer is a person also sometimes also called remote worker, who works online at his own pace . I just started freelancing as a career one year ago. You would be surprised to know that I earned much more than my expectations but yes there are ups and downs in every field and so is true for freelancing.
Inspiration for Freelancing
A year back I started a blog writing internship in a toy-making company that made environmentally friendly toys in my city. That was the very first time that I took upon doing something that was very serious. I always consider it just an internship for academic purposes as I was told by my institution because it is required to obtain a degree. So I just started it and you might be surprised to know that it was not just a blog writing internship. I did help in making toys and helped the officials managed workshops that they had arranged for kids. My experience came from great hard work in the killing summer heat for three months with no financial gains. However, I got accreditation for writing their blogs and that’s how my portfolio started to bulk up.
Passion for Achievement
Like many other people on earth, I knew that I was still entered and that I needed to find something that was worth working for. I was getting depressed day by day because I was seeing everyone around me doing extremely productive things that would definitely help them out in making a better career in the future.
Landing on Freelancing
I used to spend a lot of time on Google trying to find some opportunities but unfortunately, I never ended up getting anything that was worth my time and effort. I did some online courses that helped in the future and spent a lot of time on different websites that took me nowhere. One fine day I opened an article that was about the top ten freelancing websites I took careful consideration of all of them in shortlisted some that supported a payment method allowed in my country. Since that day I never left freelance ring added to taunt from a necessity into a passion.
After joining the website I carefully examined the projects that were offered by a lot of companies I shortlisted some that I believed I could perform on in a good way. Unlike many freelancers, I landed on my first project very fast as it was related to my field of study and not many freelancers were actually coming from that field which was psychology.
After my good performance on that project I started participating in a lot of contests, it was because there was less probability of getting projects with less impressive portfolios then there was of winning contests. It was very hard to keep on working when most of the contests were won by the people it was a constant struggle to keep working for the most time for nothing at all. But it helped me in winning a lot of contests and then It added up to My Portfolio making me a desirable candidate for job proposals. Now when My Portfolio is impressive enough I usually don’t have to submit proposals as companies themselves consider me an contact me for work.
Freelancing can be very stressful especially when some of the times you submit your work but you’re not paid for it. Horrible! Isn’t it? It doesn’t happen all of the time but yes there’s always a possibility if you ask successful freelancers you would never find one with a history of being always paid.
It is also not a promising job you don’t have a fixed salary that you would get at the end of the month. Sometimes you can earn so much that it would last for two months but sometimes you would hardly enough to meet your needs.
The feeling of being paid late and then the security of not being paid at all can be very stressful Moreover you can have tonnes of workload on some days and some days you would be completely free and have no work at all. This inconsistency makes it hard to form a consistent schedule.
Life of Dreams
I have learned all these tips through intensive experience and of course from facing loss as well but I really want you to don’t do the same and have a better and safer freelancing experience.
I’m at the end of my degree but I still love to freelance it’s not just work it’s like an addiction. Once you start it you would love it so much you would never want to leave it. It gives you the ultimate freedom to choose your clients your work time and your workplace. you also don’t have to get up early in the morning and get ready and spend extra money and transportation to reach your office because your office is right at your home.
There are no limits you can work as much as you want for as much time as you want. You are also your own boss. There is no one on your head to monitor you or to tell you what to do or what to not. You are the one who is in complete control you can choose if you want to work on a project or if you don’t want to work on it. No one can persuade you to do it if you don’t want it.
You can go on a vacation whenever you want for how long you want. It totally depends upon what do you have in your pocket. If you have owned enough to go on a vacation for three months well you can go. The best part is even if you’re on a vacation and you’re getting a project you can do it right there.
Can You do It?
I know it sounds and feels great but trust me anyone can do it so can you all you need is constant devotion as five months of constant effort can take you five years ahead in life than others.
One of the most important things that you must do is to have a bank balance or money reserve that is enough to meet your needs for a month if you don’t get work. This will help reduce stress unknown workdays and you can enjoy your unpredictable vacation.
For short term projects you need to take the risk but for the long term and consistent projects make sure you take payment advance or in the form of milestones. It is because you cannot risk working months and getting nothing at all out of it.
Never invest all your efforts on just one website this is the cause your account can get locked anytime even if you unintentionally break any of their standard operating procedures. Therefore you cannot risk losing your entire portfolio if it is on one website.
How to Start?
You just need to do what I did find some websites that support the payment method allowed in your country. Make a profile and make sure you write an outstanding description because that is the first thing any client would look at.
Make sure that you have complete knowledge of the skill that you are offering to work for and if you don’t have it don’t worry because anything can be learned nowadays on the internet for free.
Write an outstanding proposal that you can post on the jobs offered. Make sure that it is tailored to every job because people can sense if you are copy-pasting the same proposal on every type of job.
Browse on Google about remote Jobs and submit your CV. I never ended up getting a job in this way but I know a lot of people who actually did. So it might just work out for you like it worked out for them.
Always go for popular websites that are recommended by a lot of people and have a lot of positive reviews. This will help you in staying away from online fraud.
Never submit your credit card or bank details to a website that is less popular or has negative reviews as you might end up losing the money that you already have.
So what are you waiting for? Start right now. I never said that it was easy but trust me it will be worth the effort and you will totally love the worsen you’ve become. There is no other job on earth that can provide you with this level of freedom.
There are a lot of people who might not like it but it totally depends on you and your preferences that you want to do a full time nine to five job or you want the freedom and the finance both in your hands.
I wish you the best of luck and pray that you have a better experience than I did and that you earn much more than I do. Step up and change your life because no one is going to come and do it for you.
