Whoops A Daisy !
Tell me which sounds and feels better, 20 Lakh Crore or 20,00000,0000000. Wow! 2 followed by 13 zeros definitely looks and feels huge. Is it really? I don’t know.
It has been marked by the Government of India as relief for those people who have been affected by the present lock down. And who are these people really? They may have been working in a garment factory, a garage or as a help in apartments etc. etc.
I live in Karnataka, Bangalore and I have yet to find one person who can tell me that they have received any sort of cash relief. Basically this relief is for the lowest strata of laborers who lost their jobs and whose owners or managers have not paid their wages for the lock down period.
Relief is supposed to be doled out as fast as possible to prevent people from becoming desperate, hungry, unhappy and possibly suicidal.
I am a driver by profession, and was employed by a garage from 22nd June 2015 till the 21st of March, 2020 when the lock down came into force. I have received my salary for the month of March, but after that there has not been any communication from my employer as to what my position or condition is. I do have a handicap, I am 67 years old (young)
On the evening of the 27th May I had written a post on my Facebook page, and next morning I got a call from my employer who was very upset with what I had written. Yesterday I received a message saying that they were following government rules according to a circular they had received. I went through the circular and on page 11, point 9; there is a reference to people over 65.
Times Of India 28th May there are two articles concerning senior citizens, Page 3. 8 Police stations to help senior citizens in distress, there is a portal and two landline numbers. I tried the portal, but could not register, also a Whatsapp group would be formed, was mentioned. On page 6 a 68 year old Advocate Mr. Jayadeva has moved a Petition to the courts to allow senior citizens to move around outside their homes as it was as good as putting them in prison and putting them under stress.
I am fit and healthy, but without any monthly earning I am very badly handicapped. I live in a rented house and I am responsible for the health and care of my wife who has health issues . I want my dignity back; I want to work because it is the one thing that keeps me healthy and sane. I have an Aadhaar card, a valid driving license and a senior citizen card.
I would really appreciate it if someone from the government apparatus genuinely stands up and sees that the relief package is distributed to the needy, any more delay could end in heavy loss of dignity to a person or even death.
