A story of a king whose love made an epic. A story of war that caused because of the jealous, misunderstandings, misdeeds started by two brothers and ended by a huge army.
when the god deal defeat to a person, they first take his mind away, so that he sees things wrongly. Time does not a stick and a clobber a man’s head; the power of time is just this upended view of things.
A story written by VYASA, said to have written during 9th century BCE. This is also named as the “longest poem ever”! Let us see how a seed of jealous has grown to war.
“MAHABHARAT”, the story of kauravas and pandavas. which left everyone astonished. There lived a king of Hasthinapura named Shanthanu. He loved a fisherman’s daughter. Previously he had a son with goddess Ganga and she promises the king Shanthanu to uplift his son, Bheeshma and make him eligible to rule Hasthinapura. But as the son returns, the fisherman’s daughter, Satyavati demands that his children should rule the kingdom. As to satisfy her Bheeshma sacrifices his crown and his marital relationships.
Years passed by, Shantanu had his last breath and their son Vichitravirya has grown up and ready to take the throne. Bheeshma brings him two beautiful wives but soon after he got married, Vichitravirya dies. with the use of niyog system prevailing in that period, both the wives gives birth to sons, elder one named as Dhritarastra and younger one Pandu. Unfortunately there was a third son born to a dasi (servant) and named as Vidhur.
One thing that may cause disturbances in our life is because of the jealous in us. That’s the root cause for our dissatisfaction. The story tells us the same. The elder son, Dhritarastra was bought up saying that he will be the king. On the coronation day, Vidhur opposes the decision as Dhritaratra is blind. and hence, Pandu becomes the king of Hasthinapura.
Dhristarastra, being disappointed by this, keeps a grudge on this family and his loving brother. But because of a sin committed by Pandu, he has to face the death and eventually, Dhritarastra became the king again. his children grew up in the same manner. The children grew up with so much proudness and always treated the children of Pandu like they treat their servants.
War has started very soon, from the childhood itself. But when they grew up the Kauravas misbehaved with the wife of pandavas and that has become the main agenda of revenge.
The war took place in kurushektra, a place still prevalent in north India. The war took place for 18 days and was remembered as the longest and huge war of history. Hundred and millions of soldiers, elephants, horses etc sacrificed their lives on the sacred land of Kurusketra. Pandavas, however defeated the Kauravas with the help of lord Krishna and many others.
You know the many person for the war to happen? In my view its the uncle of Kauravas. He had jealous from the day Pandu became the king. As he couldn’t destroy the family by himself, he manipulated everyone he could. And the result is loss of many lives, hatred among their own family. What do you think of this? Do let me know in the comments.
WAR OF JEALOUS, MADE A HISTORY
People say there is lot much to learn from the epic, Mahabharata. I agree to it. Every character tells us a moral. Every situation, every moments to be cherished. The patience of Pandavas, the greediness of Shakuni (the uncle),the strict stand to his words of Bheeshma, the support to truth and dharma by Krishna and so on.
It was the jealousy that made Dhritarastra to go against his loving brother. It was the jealousy that made Kauravas misbehave with Draupadi, the wife of Pandavas. and rest was the history.
Imagine, if there was no ego among the brothers, Dhritarastra couldn’t go against his brother, Pandu. and simultaneously, his children would be as good as the children of Pandu. And there would be no war amongst them. The only history we would have remembered was a kingdom of Hasthinapura with efficient king and his powerful brothers!
Many such incidents to be faced in our lives, which leave us with huge disappointments, heartbreaks. But the only way to come out of that should be love and humbleness. It takes just a minute or just a wrong friendship to completely change our perspective of thinking. And that why people say, your friend determines your character. am I right?
he that is jealous is always unhappy and suffereth the pangs of death.
